Truputi pasigilinau labiau:
Tas backend'as, į kurį nuorodą galima rast http://hp44x0backend.sourceforge.net "truputi" senstelėjęs (2004-11-24 18:57). Siūlau nesivargint patch'inant sane'o su gerokai pasenusiu jų patch'u, o tiesiog išsitraukt iš cvs patį naujausią sane'ą ir pabandyt susikompiliuot jį ( atrodo, tavo paskutinėj nuorodoj rašo, kad 2008-04-01 cvs'e jie atnaujino tau reikalingą backend'ą ).

Šiaip žiūrint, į libsane-extras paketo aprašymą, panašu, kad tavo skaneris turėtų būt palaikomas ir be jokių kompiliavimų. Žvilgtelk:
